Every year Lego releases one big Lego City set that becomes the set for Christmas and this year Lego have released a update on a classic set..the Lego City Harbour 2011 set or Lego 4645.
Take a look at the TV advert that you have probably seen already:
This Lego Harbour set comes with 551 lego pieces and is suitable for ages 6-12 years, you also get a grand total of 4 new minifigures included.
One of the nice things that Lego have started to do well is to separate the build into separate bags so that it is much easier to construct these sets, in fact if you look at the back of the Lego Harbour 2011 box you will see the image of each bag and what it builds which happens to be the Truck, Harbour building and Crane and Cargo Ship.
As I mentioned you get 4 minifigures with this set which include the mechanic or fisherman as he is seen doing in all the box art work, then we have the ships captain which features some great art work on his torso and a proper captains beard on the head sculpt. Moving on we have the Lorry Driver and Crane Operator.
Looking at this Lego 4645 set in more detail, it comprises of three main parts, the Lorry, the Harbour building and the Cargo ship. Let’s start with the red lorry, which was nice and easy to build and features some great detail. The Doors on either side of the cab open up and the back of the lorry is on a tail lift that rises and lowers.
Moving on to the actual harbour or dock itself, this is made up of one office and then a gaint crane that can move across the length of the set. The actual set up is very easy as most of the parts are quite big. There are some really lovely details that come with this set such as the fisherman with his fishing rod and a box of fish, you actually get 3 fish inside the box.
At the top of the Dock you get a conveyer belt which moves, so you can drop your cargo from the crane into the conveyor belt which will then deposit it into the awaiting lorry.
The crain is the only section of this Lego set that younger children make have problems building, it’s more to do with the threading of the string that operates the rising and lowering of the bucket.
Moving on we come to the actual Cargo Ship which is a really nice piece , it has some great details and it looks really good. The Captain can fit into the bridge which also has some nice features. The main cargo holds of the ship can be accessed very easily and the build is very simple.
NB. The cargo ship does not float in water, so please don’t try unless you are trying to recreate a scene from Titanic!
All in all the Lego City Harbour is a great set and a nice addition to the Lego city world. My only negative would be that I did prefer the older 2007 Harbour set which was Lego 7994, this set is now discountined but you may still find sets for sale here.
The Lego Harbour set is available from all online toy retailers like amazon.co.uk, toys r us, tesco, john lewis, firebox and many more…if you want to compare UK prices and find the best deals click below.
